At KABE Learning Inc. (“KABE Learning”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), we believe that children’s language education must be built on trust, transparency, and safety. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, disclose, and protect personal information when you visit our website, enroll in Mandarin or Cantonese lessons, or interact with our services.

1. Legal framework and compliance

KABE Learning Inc. is incorporated in Alberta, Canada. We manage personal information in compliance with Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

Because we welcome learners internationally, our practices also align with the principles of the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and international child privacy and data protection standards.

2. Information we collect

We collect only the personal information reasonably necessary to deliver personalized language instruction, coordinate lessons, and ensure student safety.

2.1 Information provided by parents or guardians:

• Parent Contact Information: Full name, email address, phone number, and billing address.
• Student Profile Data: Student’s first name or preferred nickname, age or birth year, dialect interest (Mandarin or Cantonese), current language fluency, and learning objectives.
• Communications & Inquiries: Consultation notes, scheduling preferences, emails, and feedback.
• Payment Information: Payment transactions are handled through certified third-party payment processors. KABE Learning does not store raw credit card numbers or bank credentials on our systems.

2.2 Information collected during live instruction:

• Audio and Video Feeds: Live visual and voice participation during Zoom sessions.
• Educational Submissions: Homework exercises, worksheets, chat interactions in classroom tools, and teacher progress evaluations.

2.3 Technical and website data:

When you browse our portal, our servers may log technical details such as your IP address, browser type, device characteristics, operating system, and pages visited. We also use essential cookies to maintain site security and optional analytics cookies to understand site performance.

3. Children’s privacy and parental consent

Our educational programs are tailored for students aged 3 to 18. Protecting children’s privacy is fundamental to our educational mission:

• Parent-Initiated Registration: All student accounts, trial lesson bookings, and lesson payments must be completed by a parent or legal guardian. We do not solicit or knowingly collect personal information directly from children outside supervised class activities.
• No Behavioral Advertising or Profiling: We never sell, rent, or trade student data. We never display behavioral ads to students or build commercial profiles on children.
• Supervised Third-Party Tools: In compliance with Google’s Terms of Service, children under 13 must access Google Classroom through a parent’s account or a supervised Google Family Link account.
• Parental Rights: Parents have the right at any time to review the personal information held about their child, request corrections or deletions, and instruct us to stop further collection.

4. How we use personal information

We use collected personal information solely for legitimate educational and administrative purposes:

• Matching students with vetted native-speaking instructors suited to their age, proficiency, and goals.
• Conducting live interactive Mandarin and Cantonese lessons via Zoom.
• Sharing learning materials, worksheets, and lesson review notes through Google Classroom.
• Conducting internal safety audits, teacher mentoring, and pedagogical quality assurance.
• Processing billing, sending administrative notices, and communicating schedule changes.

5. Class recordings and 90-day retention policy

5.1. Purpose of Recordings: Live lessons may be recorded for student review, tutor quality monitoring, and child safeguarding audits. By enrolling in lessons, parents grant consent to the recording of classroom video and audio.

5.2. Strict 90-Day Retention Schedule: Consistent with modern EdTech data minimization practices, authorized recordings are stored in encrypted, access-controlled cloud storage and are permanently deleted after ninety (90) days, unless an extended retention period is required for a specific safety inquiry or legal proceeding.

5.3. Access and Distribution Limits: Authorized recordings for private 1-on-1 sessions are accessible exclusively to the enrolled student and their parent. Group lesson recordings are accessible only to participating cohort families for attendance catch-up. Instructors, parents, and students are prohibited from downloading, screen-capturing, or sharing recordings outside the authorized classroom environment.

6. Third-party sub-processors

We partner with reliable third-party service providers to deliver our learning platform:

• Zoom Video Communications, Inc.: Used for real-time video, audio, and screen sharing during lessons. Zoom processes session data under its own privacy and security protocols.
• Google LLC (Google Classroom & Google Drive): Used to share digital flashcards, lesson slides, homework assignments, and authorized review recordings.
• Payment Gateways: Certified payment service providers who securely process transactions without disclosing full financial details to KABE Learning.
• Google Analytics: Aggregated, anonymized website usage statistics. Activated only when optional analytics cookies are accepted.

7. Data security and storage

We implement administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, loss, alteration, or disclosure. Cloud servers and sub-processors may store data in Canada and the United States, subject to the laws of those jurisdictions.

8. Parental rights and privacy requests

You retain control over your family’s personal information. You have the right to:

• Request access to personal information we hold about you or your child.
• Request correction of inaccurate or outdated information.
• Request deletion of your family's personal information, subject to mandatory statutory retention requirements.
• Withdraw consent for optional data processing.
